Graphic Design Office Assistant

Currently, our office is operating remotely. The position will be remote until we return to in-person operations. Below is the full description of what the position entails when we are in the office. Some duties and responsibilities will be temporarily adjusted to accommodate our virtual environment. We continue to offer all of our services in a virtual format.

First and foremost, we are looking for a student who thrives in a fast-paced environment, interacting with a diverse student body. Our ideal candidate will be eager to learn about career development and gain real-world experience using their graphic design skills to help market Career Services.

The day-to-day:
●     Front Desk Management (50%): You are the first point of contact for students, alumni, and employers visiting Career Services. We rely on you to be welcoming, knowledgeable about our resources, and organized. The more resourceful, proactive, and service oriented you are, the better. Duties will include:
○        Scheduling appointments and drop-ins
○        Answering and directing phone calls
○        Office organization
○        Maintaining GoldPASS (U of M’s online job and internship posting system)
○        Misc projects as assigned
●     Marketing Material (10%): You’ll use Adobe Creative Cloud to create print and digital marketing material such as brochures, fliers, and web design elements.
●     Newsletter Creation (40%): After a period of training and with extensive support, you will help design, write, and distribute digital newsletters of career services content using Adobe Creative Cloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Newsletter #1: Bi-week social media content for Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Newsletter #2: Monthly update on GoldPASS usage and features with graphics and written instructions.

Qualifications:
●     A current University of Minnesota student interested in working with diverse populations and learning about career development. See student employment eligibility.
●     Able to work a set schedule of 8-12 hrs a week during the full academic year.
●     Strong graphic design skills.
●     Interest and skill in social media strategy and creation.
●     Able to both take direction and drive projects.
●     A team player with a service oriented mindset.
●     Organized.
●     Time management pro.
●     Detail oriented - comfortable copy editing.
●     PLUS: HTML coding knowledge.
●     PLUS: Interested and able to work more than one academic year.

Unit Description
Career Services Administration manages the Career Center in 411 Bruininks serving multiple colleges (CLA, CDES, CFANS, and CCAPS). In addition to supporting the collegiate career services units, we are the central arm of career services at the University of Minnesota. We initiate and maintain events and services that foster the career development of all students in the University system. Our programs help students with goal setting, career exploration and planning, and the job/internship search process.

Work Hours
Monday-Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM, 8-12+ hours per week. Will work around class schedules.
