Employer Engagement Assistant - CLA Career Services

About the Position

Job Type: part-time student position (work study preferred)
Hours: 15-20 per week during Employer Engagement hours of operation (8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday-Friday)
Pay: $11.00 per hour
Location: 524 Bruininks Hall (Interview Center)
Number of openings: 1-2 (summer 2020 start date preferred)

CLA Employer Engagement is a unit within CLA Career Services whose function is to connect CLA students with employers, for recruiting and career education.. This includes managing GoldPASS, planning career events such as the CLA Internship & Career Fair (which draws about 100 organizations and 1,000 CLA students), supporting employer engagement programming and employers’ on-campus recruiting efforts, and more.

The Employer Engagement Assistant is a valued member of the Employer Engagement team, whose work is essential to the team’s day-to-day operations. While hours are flexible to accommodate class schedules, the EEA must be available for a minimum of 10 hours per week in order to fulfill the responsibilities of the role. This role does not work directly with students, and includes both independent “computer-facing” project work and collaborative “people-facing” work (like trainings and presentations).

Responsibilities

GoldPASS powered by Handshake

The EEA will be the GoldPASS expert among CLA Career Services student staff. As the GoldPASS expert, the EEA will:
  • Review job postings and organizations’ requests for approval
  • Respond to GoldPASS questions from students, CLA Career Services full-time and student staff, and other CLA staff
  • Assist with the development and delivery of GoldPASS training and education, such as staff and student training sessions and development of educational materials (handouts, videos, etc.)
  • Create reports for CLA leadership to track information such as student engagement in GoldPASS, volume of opportunities (jobs, internships, etc.) over time, and more
  • Support marketing efforts to encourage CLA students to use GoldPASS

Data collection, analysis, and reporting

Much of the Employer Engagement team’s work involves data collection. The EEA will be immediately involved in the collection, management, analysis and reporting of this data. Data-related tasks may include:
  • Collect and track attendance and assessment data from CLA career events such as the CLA Internship & Career Fair, Practice Interview Days, On-Campus Interviews, employer recruiting events (i.e. info sessions), site visits, etc.
  • Analyze event data and make recommendations for improvement
  • Create reports on data collection/analysis and assist the Employer Engagement team in presenting reports to the larger CLA Career Services staff
  • Maintain various databases, adding new data and ensuring existing data is up-to-date

Event planning and management

The Employer Engagement team is involved in the planning of numerous recruiting and career education events, and the EEA will contribute to the management and coordination of these events. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Support event planning efforts
  • Assisting with student and/or employer registration and/or sign-in
  • Preparing materials
  • Room set-up

Other need- and interest-based projects

Employer Engagement newsletter (EE Update)
During the academic year, Employer Engagement sends a weekly email newsletter to about 600 campus partners with information about upcoming career- and employer-related opportunities for students. The EEA:
  • Helps find, organize, and write content for the EE Update
  • Assist with content creation, as needed, for other CLA Career Services communications, such as the Career Corner newsletter
Research
The EEA often conducts research on a variety of topics for the Employer Engagement team. This may include, but is not limited to:
  • Researching organizations and employment opportunities for CLA students to support outreach to employers and/or to help full-time staff prepare for meetings with employers
  • Researching other liberal arts/Big10/etc. schools around various topics (for example, how are other schools using GoldPASS powered by Handshake?)
Attend team meetings (on an as needed or as available basis) to share reports, information/feedback from employers, etc.

Required
  • Undergraduate CLA student
  • Able to work 15 hours per week year-round (ideally has some availability during breaks and summer as well)
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong time management
  • Self-directed (ability to work independently without a lot of oversight)
  • Thrives in a quiet, low-key workspace
  • Demonstrates strong and clear writing and verbal communication skills
  • Solves problems even in situations with no clear solution
  • Desire to provide strong customer service
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred
  • Work-study eligibility (preferred but not required)
  • Has previously engaged with CLA Career Services & GoldPASS
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking and/or presenting to various audiences
  • Leadership experience

Peer Advisor

CLA Career Services is the career services office for students in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA).  We offer resources and services to help CLA students choose a major, search for internships, jobs and/or volunteer opportunities, revise their resume and cover letter, choose a career, apply to graduate/professional school, and prepare for opportunities post-graduation.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant/Student Academic Support

This position assists in grading and administrative support across sections of the College of Liberal Arts Career Management Courses, including grading assignments, supporting the course sites (Canvas), and managing the logistics of the courses and student engagement. The position will also meet with the Curriculum Coordinator regularly for training and assist in training other student leader positions in CLA Career Services to also provide academic support to the career management courses.
